Joyce Lo is an educator living in British Columbia, Canada with her husband and two boys, one of whom has complex communication needs. As a teacher and parent of a child with disabilities, Joyce has the privilege to learn with children of all abilities and also collaborate with specialists, teachers, counsellors, and other parents. Joyce has a Master of Educational Technology and is passionate in promoting education on inclusion, ableism, disability, and the use of technology. She co-founded BC Association for Advancing Communications and is an advocate for disabled children. She believes it is important to provide children with opportunities to develop literacy skills, connect and communicate with others, and be able to participate meaningfully in society. Joyce’s life experiences have inspired her to write and illustrate books to help more readers explore, understand, and learn about people with various abilities.

"As a teacher and parent of a child with disabilities, my hope is to have more books in classrooms and homes to increase people's understanding about AAC users, promote inclusion, and embrace diversity."
